It is with great sadness that we inform the JAGS community of the death of Margaret Westwood (née Post) (Class of '51).

Please see below an obituary from her daughter: 

"Known to her schoolfriends as ‘Postie’, Margaret joined JAGS in 1944. Her years there were formative, both intellectually and culturally, and music became a lifelong passion. In 1951 she went up to Bristol University to read Economics and in 1956 she started work as a researcher at The Economist in London. 

"Margaret married Jack Westwood in 1960 and had two daughters. In 1962 she became an economics lecturer at the newly designated University of Surrey and went on to hold a series of senior academic roles there, finally retiring in 2006.  

"Following the family’s move to Guildford in 1971, Margaret became very active in the local community. She served on the board of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre for 24 years and was closely involved with the Guildford Institute, the U3A and various local charities, right up until her death. 

"Margaret was determined, independent and intellectually curious. She was also very adventurous and loved to travel. Above all, Margaret inspired others through her encouragement and her refusal to let any barriers diminish her engagement with life. She gave her time and talents unstintingly and in doing so touched many people’s lives. Margaret will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends."
