We are sharing the news of the sad passing of Hazel Eastwood (née Cupit), JAGS Alumna from the Class of 1951.
Her husband, Rob, writes:
"Hazel was born in Forest Hill and attended JAGS from 1941 until 1951. Her main passion was sport, particularly hockey, but she also valued her academic education. After training at a domestic science college, her teaching career included working for Sydenham School, the muscular dystrophy unit at Queen Mary's Hospital in Carshalton and Thomas Delarue School in Tonbridge for students with cerebral palsy, teaching many different subjects.
"She then dedicated herself to bringing up our family, combining this with active involvement with church activities, for example in Family Services and homes for older people, often using her talents in piano playing and singing. Later in life she worked with husband, Rob, running village shops in Kent.
"Throughout her life, Hazel demonstrated a sincere interest and care for people, often for those who might sometimes otherwise be overlooked. She would challenge things she thought were wrong but promoted positive initiatives. Towards the end of her life, she referred back more and more fondly to her Christian home and upbringing, including JAGS.
"She leaves behind her husband Rob, children Caroline and Nick and younger sister Patricia, JAGS Alumna from the Class of 1955."
