In Memoriam |
It is with great sadness that we inform the JAGS community of the death of JAGS alumna Dr Mira Leigh (née Lal) ('68).
Mira was born on 19 May 1950 and died on 29 July 2022.
After leaving JAGS, Mira won a place at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School. This was on the original site before the hospital was relocated and for a female medical student its casualty unit could be a challenging environment, especially on Saturday nights. Mira soon became known for her no nonsense and firm attitude when dealing with difficult patients.
After qualification, she chose a career in paediatrics with a particular interest in oncology. She worked for some years on bone marrow transplants, first at Westminster Children's Hospital and later the Royal Marsden. In 1985 she became a consultant at Bedford Hospital and for the next three decades developed a reputation as a first class and empathetic clinician.
She played an instrumental part in the design and commissioning of Bedford’s new paediatric unit, considered to be one of the best in the country.
After retirement, she enjoyed a happy and varied life with family, friends and, in particular, her beloved cocker spaniel, Archie.
She leaves a husband, three sons and three grandchildren. The entire JAGS community wishes to extend its deepest condolences to her friends and family.
