Former Heads Support JAGS Bursary Fund Campaign

13 Oct 2025
School News

We are delighted to announce that Former Heads Sally-Anne Huang (Head of JAGS, 2015 – 2020), Marion Gibbs (Head of JAGS,1994 – 2015), and Brigid Gardner (Head of JAGS, 1984 – 1994) are backing our JAGS Bursary Fund Campaign. Over the years, they have seen first-hand the transformational impact of the bursary provision.

As a charity, JAGS is one of the leading UK schools for our support of a significant number of bursary pupils; currently around 17% of Senior School students receive financial support. In this challenging climate raising funds for a life-changing JAGS bursary is even more important than ever.

Sally-Anne Huang (Head of JAGS, 2015 – 2020)

“JAGS is a fantastic school which has always developed pupils so that they have a sense of the real world around them and the desire to make a difference. A bursary always transforms the life of one individual dramatically, but I remember very clearly that, at JAGS, the recipients of these awards often went on to make a difference in their own communities as well.  JAGS would not be the diverse, curious community it is without these brilliant girls who enter the school on bursaries and enrich the experience of everyone there”.

Marion Gibbs (Head of JAGS, 1994 – 2015)

“We always ensured that those on JAGS bursaries should have every opportunity to fulfil their potential, with additional funding as needed. It was such a pleasure to watch the girls blossom and thrive and try out so many new experiences in different subjects, sports, drama, arts and languages, which they had not encountered before, as well as making new friends from all backgrounds. They aimed high and many achieved things beyond their wildest dreams. Every donation, whatever size is really helpful’’.

Brigid Gardner (Head of JAGS, 1984 – 1994)

"The addition of VAT to independent school fees makes this a difficult time for JAGS to maintain its outstanding number of bursaries, let alone increase them. If alumnae value the education they received at JAGS and appreciate the high standards I hope it taught them and the success it may have brought them, I hope they will contribute generously to the Bursary Fund, so that as many as possible, from diverse backgrounds, may contribute to and benefit from a JAGS education."

Alex Hutchinson, Head of JAGS said, "Many of you will have heard me speak about the profound impact on the hundreds of our students over the years who have received a life-changing JAGS bursary. This deep-rooted philanthropic philosophy is testament to the Heads who have gone before me, and it is a great pleasure to be joined in this campaign by my three direct predecessors."
