In Memoriam |
Janet Robson, née Cartwright, year of 1952, who sadly died on 2 February 2016.
Janet and I met at JAGS in 1944 in the Third Form, at the age of nine and soon became firm friends. I remember that she was good at Geography, unlike me and also an excellent swimmer, as, later, were her two sons, Andrew and Ian. Janet used to recall, somewhat ruefully, how she and her husband, Roy, often rose very early in the morning in order to take them to the swimming baths.
Another early memory is of Janet’s father coming to collect her from my winter birthday party and, being early and not wanting to embarrass her, strolled up and down the road outside. He was startled to find himself approached by the police on suspicion of loitering. Janet and I found this quite hilarious, but her father did not; nor, had she found out, would our severe Headmistress, Miss Edwards. A JAGS girl’s parent in trouble with the law – tut tut!
Janet was a staunch supporter of Save the Children and also served many times as an Examinations Invigilator, but her chief passion was embroidery at which she excelled and with which she created many articles of great beauty.
Dear Janet. She was always the first of our year group to arrive from her home in beautiful Northumberland at the Alumnae Reunion Lunch at JAGS and now, sadly, she is ahead of us again. She will be missed.
