In Memoriam |
It is with great sadness that we inform the JAGS community of the death of Janet Masson-Smyth (née Masson) (Class of 1968). Janet passed away peacefully at her home in southwest France on 19 April 2024, aged 75.
Janet Masson-Smyth (née Masson) 20 December 1949 – 19 April 2024
Janet attended James Allen's Girls' School (JAGS) from 1961 to 1968. After completing her studies at JAGS, she went on to earn a degree in Chemistry at the University of Oxford.
Janet was known not only for her deep commitment to consumer rights and fairness but also for her warm spirit, sharp intellect, and enduring friendships. She is fondly remembered by many in the profession as a trailblazer and mentor.
She is survived by her husband, David Smyth—also a retired Trading Standards Officer—and their two children, Tom and Hannah.
A memorial was held on 13 July at the Dulwich Woodhouse in London, where friends, family, and former colleagues gathered to honour her life and legacy.
The entire JAGS community wishes to extend its deepest condolences to her friends and family at this time.
