It is with great sadness that we inform the JAGS community of the passing of alumna Sonia Rodway (Class of 1952) aged 89. Sonia was born on 29 November 1934 and died on 11 May 2024.

We invite you to read a tribute by Jill Bazely (née Dalton), a fellow JAGS alumna and close friend of Sonia.

Sonia started at JAGS in 1944, a year after myself.  Her family lived in Dulwich and her late brother, Peter, was a pupil at Alleyn's. When the family later moved to Bromley, Sonia was 'heartbroken'. Life for her always centred on Dulwich.

After school she started nurse training, but soon switched to hospital administration where she remained until retirement.

Her interests were very varied, including amateur dramatics locally and travel, both home and abroad.

For many years our group of JAGS girls attended the annual May lunch. Much laughter and happy reminiscences! Sonia and I were last there for the grand opening of the new Community Music Centre.

Sonia was a dear friend to many and will be sadly missed.

- Jill Bazely (née Dalton)

If you have any memories of Sonia that you would like to share, please reach out to the JAGS Alumnae Relations Team by emailing alumnae@jags.org.uk - we would love to hear from you.
