In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that we inform the JAGS community of the death of JAGS alumna Caryl Horwood (née Attwood).

Caryl was born on 9 October 1929 and died on 31 January 2024. She attended JAGS between 1937 and 1947.

Caryl was a thoughtful sister to brothers John, Tom and James; a loving wife to John; and a caring mother to Sue, Claire and Debbie; grandmother to 5; great-grandmother to 2; and a cherished friend to many.

A lifelong learner, Caryl started teacher training as a mature student where she majored in Art. She always had an artistic and creative flair. Throughout her life, Caryl found joy in entertaining friends, spending time in her garden, holidaying with John sending postcards from their travels.

Despite her own struggles with macular degeneration, Caryl remained steadfast in her commitment to helping others and was a passionate supporter of the Guildford Macular Society.

The entire JAGS community wishes to extend its deepest condolences to her friends and family.
