In Memoriam |
We are saddened to hear of the passing on Mrs Brenda Dorothy Lucas (nee Wade), who passed away in 2020 at the age of 90.
Brenda attended JAGS during the war years from 1941 to 1948. After leaving school Brenda attended Goldsmiths College in London where she trained to be a teacher specialising in mathematics and science. Her first appointment was at Plassy Road Secondary School for Girls in Catford and after marrying her husband Douglas in 1952, they settled in Preston and had two children, John and Beverley. She continued with her teaching career and progressed through a number of posts before becoming the Deputy Headteacher of a large comprehensive school where she remained until retiring in 1990.
Following the sudden death of her husband in 1978, shortly after they had celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary, she became an active member of the National Association of Widows.
Brenda was an avid bridge player and took an active part in her local club where she was fondly remembered for helping new players to develop their skills.
Whilst at JAGS she developed a love of the cultivation of fruit and vegetables and became a very keen gardener which was a hobby that she continued to enjoy for the rest of her life.
She is fondly remembered as a kind but firm teacher by many of her former pupils and colleagues, and as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother by her family.
