Thanks to Margaret Brakell (Class of 1950) for these vivid recollections. She writes:

I look back on my years at JAGS with very happy memories. Miss Hodgekiss making me stand up in class to add up my exam results, as she couldn’t believe I had managed to get a high mark in French!! (Neither could I but it was true that time.)
Miss Potts taught us German. I remember she went back to Germany to help with the many refugees who needed her linguistic skills. Miss Dieveson taught us Music. I tried twice to get in the choir but in her wisdom she turned me down. (I still can’t sing!!) Miss Knott, Games and PE. (‘Bottoms in, girls – Margaret, your stomach is now out.’) I never did get it right.
So many memories. Gwenyth Prebble, now Thomas, was in my class. 40 years later she moved in next door. How’s that for coincidence?
Now that I’m 84, there is not so much news about people I knew. We left in 1948, but are the class of 1950. Two prefects I later became friendly with in the City of London College were Pat Friend and Joan Maurice. We’ve now lost touch.

September 2016

Can anyone help Margaret find Pat and Joan?
