The sun shone for our inaugural volunteering day in the Botany Gardens at JAGS this Easter. The wonderful group joining the Botany Team were made up of alumnae and parents of JAGS students past and present. They rolled up their sleeves and performed impressive horticultural magic in the gardens. A morning in the veg beds saw pak choi, kale and purple sprouting seedlings planted out in neat rows and the afternoon a great variety of activities from woodchip and mulch spreading to willow weaving. It took 12 wheelbarrow loads to return the volume of potted up and pricked out plants to the greenhouse! Close encounters with newt families, butterflies and other pollinators added an extra dimension of amusement and joy. Thanks to everyone involved, it was an absolute pleasure.
We are already looking forward to the next Botany Garden volunteering day on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. If you would be interested in taking part, please complete the short form linked here.
