JAGS alumna Ese Overo-Tarimo (Class of 2012) and JAGS Head of Sixth Form Mat Weeks both ran the 2025 London Marathon this April, each raising funds for causes close to their hearts.
Ese, a former Head Girl, ran in memory of her late sister, who sadly passed away in an accident during Ese’s final year at university. This marathon marked the 10th anniversary of her sister’s passing. Reflecting on her time at JAGS, Ese said, “I’m incredibly proud to be a JAGS alumna and to have been one of the Head Girls.” Her time at JAGS had been marked by active involvement in drama, sports, music, and volunteering — experiences she credited with shaping the person she became.
As part of her marathon challenge, and in memory of her sister, Ese raised funds for Winston’s Wish, a charity dedicated to supporting children and young adults coping with the loss of a loved one.
Mat Weeks, JAGS Head of Sixth Form, also participated in the marathon. Mat raised funds for WaterAid, a charity focused on providing clean, safe, and affordable water to communities worldwide. "Access to clean water should be a basic human right, but sadly this is not the case for many people," he said. In addition to supporting WaterAid, Mat also fundraised for Brain Tumour Research in memory of an old school friend and rugby teammate who sadly passed away in 2023 from a brain tumour.
“Former Geography students may remember how enthusiastic I am for WaterAid. This conviction and the personal reasons for Brain Tumour Research fundraising meant I was determined to complete the distance, no matter how painful!” Mat said.
We wished Ese and Mat the best of luck in their endeavours and were thrilled to see them cross the finish line!
