Following the great success of our first ever Botany Garden volunteering day this spring, we are excited to extend an invitation to join the Botany Gardens Team for the JAGS Botany Gardens Summer Volunteering Day on Tuesday 4 August 2026 from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
You could be keen to put your gardening skills to good use or interested in trying a bit of gardening for the very first time, all abilities are absolutely welcome! Please click the button below to complete a short form and register to volunteer on a first come first serve basis.
We are looking for a team of up to 12 keen adults to work alongside Sally Rendel and Eleanor Jennings, the JAGS Botany Gardens Team, and do a mix of seasonal tasks that are likely to include some seed sowing, pricking out, planting out seedlings, weeding and clearing, composting and deadhedging.
The shape of the day:
10:55am - Gather in the JAGS Sports Club Reception
11:00am - A quick introductory talk about the gardens and their history
11:20am - Gardening session 1
12:30pm - Lunchtime in the gardens (weather pending)
1:30pm - Gardening session 2
3:00pm - Wrapping it up
The Botany Gardens Team will provide gloves, kneelers and tools, all you will need to do is bring a packed lunch. Please dress in clothes suitable for a day outdoors in August - which basically means be ready for anything with waterproofs, layers and some sturdy waterproof shoes, as well as sunhats, sunscreen and water bottles. There will be access to adjacent WCs and water stations for refills in the Sports Club and use of our large JAGS Board Room adjacent to the Sports Centre for lunch and breaks if the weather is challenging.
Registration is required if you would like to take part, so please click on the button below to register as a volunteer by 17 July. We will be in contact soon after that to let you know if you you have a place. If you have any queries at all please do not hesitate to contact Sally Rendel on sally.rendel@jags.org.uk. We hope you will join the Botany Garden Team for what will be a wonderful day in the special JAGS Botany Gardens.
