Barbara's obituary featured in The Guardian this week, written by her sister Gillian Whitting.

The piece highlights her work from the late 1980s until 2007, working for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) in York, coordinating social research with focus on improving government policy for disadvantaged groups. Barbara is remembered for helping her fellow social researchers: she was especially supportive of junior colleagues and was keen to ensure that the voices of grassroots organisations were heard.

Barbara left JAGS in 1960, aged 18, and her first job was at the Meterological Office.
